Marriage Licenses

A marriage license may be obtained from any town or city clerk in New Hampshire, regardless of where you live. Once you obtain the license, you may be married anywhere in New Hampshire.

If either person has been married before, they must present a:

  • certified copy of the divorce decree; 
  • certified copy of annulment or; 
  • certified copy of the death certificate;
  • certified civil union dissolution decree.

An appointment is required to apply for a marriage license. Bring photo identification and proof of age. The filing fee is $50.00, payable at the time you apply for the license. Cash, checks (payable to the Town of Woodstock), and credit/debit cards are accepted.  Both parties must be present and have all of the required information. The marriage license will be processed while you wait. The whole process usually takes about 20 minutes.

Helpful hint:  Know the first, middle, last, suffix, maiden name, ancestry, and place of birth of your parents        

The State of New Hampshire law does not require any waiting period or any witnesses to your marriage ceremony.  Once issued, your license is valid for 90 days.
