MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

Each spring, the Water Department flushes Town-owned hydrants as part of required routine maintenance to remove any sediment from water distribution pipes. This process maintains water quality throughout the distribution system, water clarity, and also checks for water pressure. This program involves opening hydrant valves to create increased water flows, which dislodge and clean out naturally occurring sedimentation in the pipelines. Water customers may experience minor flooding of the streets, low water pressure/or periods without water could occur, and discolored water in their area during hydrant flushing. We recommend that you fill bottles with water for use during this time. Customers should avoid doing laundry during flushing time and run their tap water on cold to flush the lines if discoloration occurs. If you experience colored water after the scheduled completion time, please run the cold water for 5 to 10 minutes (we suggest an outside spigot or bathtub) to clear your service line.

If your water does not clear up, or if you have concerns regarding flushing, please call Mike Welch at 603-348-8783.

We would like to reassure our water customers that the water is safe to drink and that any discoloration should clear up after the water is run for a few minutes.

Hydrant flushing will begin on Monday, May 13th, and run through Friday, May 17th, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
